Hamilton House Gardens
Open June through October
Historic New England invites you to host your wedding ceremony in the beautiful Hamilton House Gardens, overlooking Salmon Falls River in South Berwick, Maine.
Hamilton House was built in 1785 by Colonel Jonathan Hamilton, a prominent merchant. The gardens we appreciate so much today were created by Mrs. Emily Tyson, who purchased the property with her stepdaughter Elizabeth in 1898. Encouraged by their friend Sarah Orne Jewett, they restored the house and landscape. The dramatic setting of the house and gardens makes this site a beautiful natural location for an event.
During your event staff members will be on site to help make your time at Hamilton House as care free as possible. Their responsibilities will be to supervise deliveries and parking, apply site policy and security, and assist with site-related needs of our guests. Please note that the house museum and grounds remain open to the public during all ceremonies.
We ask that you contract with an independent supplier for chairs, musicians, and photographers if you require their services. Please see our suggested rental providers page for our suggestions. Hamilton House is equipped with two restrooms; one of them is handicapped accessible.
- 50% non-refundable deposit due with rental. Full payment is due thirty days before the event.
- Your rental includes one hour of mutually agreed upon rehearsal time as well as two and one half hours of time on the day of your ceremony.
- It is possible to include an inclement weather clause in the rental agreement. Please ask for more details.
