Brown's Wood Neighborhood

Lincoln, Massachusetts

Brown's Wood Neighborhood
Brown's Wood Home, November 2009

Brown's Wood in Lincoln, Massachusetts, is a cooperative, "do-it-yourself" neighborhood, incorporated in 1954. The homes in Brown's Wood were built according to the principles of the modern movement, yet like many mid-century modern buildings, are often unrecognized for their contribution to New England's architectural history. In order to preserve the historical development of this important neighborhood, Historic New England partnered with the Friends of Modern Architecture Lincoln (FoMA) and the Town of Lincoln Archives and Library to collect oral histories of the individuals who live in Brown's Wood. After the material was collected, copies of the oral histories were deposited both at Historic New England and the Lincoln Library.
