A descriptive term for the three dimensional jewelry popular during World War II, attributed to François Curiel, head of the jewelry department at Christie’s in the 1970s and 80s. Primarily worked in highly polished colored golds, Retro jewelry is characterized by bold, sculptured geometric shapes and baroque scrolls decorated with colored gemstones, including rubies, aquamarines, and amethysts.
