Martha Curtis Stevenson served with the U.S. Sanitary Commission in 1863-1864 which provided civilian support for soldiers during the Civil War. She was the daughter of Jonathan Greely Stevenson and the sister of Frances Greely Stevenson and Annie Brace Stevenson. The sisters were involved in philanthropic activities and lived together in Brookline, Massachusetts.
