Description

Subseries C, Photographic material, 1861-1922, undated (#4.1-5.6, C.4.1-C.4.31, OB.3.11), contains black and white photographs; color photographs; cartes de visite; miniature portraits; framed photographs; tintypes; boxed tintypes (cased photographs); and photograph and tintype albums. The majority of the photographs and tintypes are portraits of unidentified family members related to the families who inhabited the Parson Smith Homestead in South Windham, Maine. A portion of the identified photographs are of Reginald Rusden Goodell (1867-1944), which include portraits of Goodell; portraits and group photographs of Goodell's acquaintances at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine; and a collection of black and white photographs from Goodell's ca.1914 pan American trip to Barbados, Chile, Panama, and the coast of the Pacific Ocean (#C.4.20). The cartes de visites are comprised of various notable members of royalty, world leaders, artists, etc.; various landscapes; and other subjects. Also included in the subseries are three photograph albums belonging to the Goodell family and an unidentified tintype album. The boxed tintypes (cased photographs) contain small box latches and hinges. Additional photographic material may be found in #C.2.18 and C.2.23. The subseries is arranged first by photographs of identified individuals (alphabetically by surname; when applicable, women are identified by married name), then alphabetically by record type, and thereunder chronologically.
