Description

Photo album titled "Mantels 71." Title is hand printed on a round paper label affixed to spine; volume number is also printed on a paper label affixed to spine. Album has a heavy textured dark brown covering and is held together with two metal brads; one brad is missing. Album has 108 olive green pages; eighteen of the pages are blank. Album contains 90 mounted black-and-white photographs. Photographs are of a variety of fireplace mantels and surrounds manufactured by A. H. Davenport Co., Irving and Casson, and their successor, Irving and Casson - A. H. Davenport Co. Order number and year are displayed in some photographs. One customer name is noted. Other customers were identified by cross referencing order numbers and years to other items in the collection where the customer name is known. Identified customers include: First Baptist Church (Pittsburgh, PA); J. Harleston Parker (Boston, MA); Nebraska State Capital (Lincoln, NE); Thompson-Starrett Co. (Hotel McAlpin, New York, NY); and Mrs. Clay Williams (Winston-Salem, NC). Digital images of a selection of photographs from the album are attached to this record.
This album is related to a series of photograph albums in CC010. There was no volume 71 in that sequence; however, The Strong Museum (the former owner of the albums in CC010) assigned the number 71 to a volume lacking its number. This album is the true volume 71 per the arrangement of the compilers of the albums.
