Description

Design drawing titled "Swivel Arm Chair. Arm Chair." rendered in watercolor and pencil. Perspective views are shown. Drawing depicts a klismos-style armchair and swivel armchair. Armchair has molded rectangular crest rail with carved rosettes at corners; upholstered semicircular back with molded and shaped lower rail; molded stiles; molded inwardly-scrolled arms; seat with over-the-rail upholstery and a single row of metal tacks along bottom edge; and flared molded saber legs. Swivel armchair has similar design with the exceptions of the arms having partially upholstered rests; seat upholstery not over the rails; and the four saber legs being replaced by a swivel mechanism with four reeded outstretched legs with brass feet and casters. Title and "Ref. Arm Chair in Carlton House (Royal Academy.)" are handwritten on drawing. Handwritten on back is "8/2/61 from White House folder."
