File Drawer -- Pencil Sketches

Description

File drawer containing 281 items filed in 25 envelopes. File has brown cover and is designed to be used as a drawer in a filing cabinet; however, file covers have come loose. The majority of the items (approximately 240) are rough sketches in pencil by Irving and Casson or Irving and Casson - A. H. Davenport Co. Also included are seven blueprints, several photographs and other miscellaneous ephemera. The items depicted are all ecclesiastical in nature and are sorted into envelopes according to subject. Items depicted include: altars, candlesticks, crosses, fonts, hymn boards, lecterns and missal stands, pews, stalls, charis, pulpits, organ consoles, moldings, lettering, communion tables, confessionals, tabernacles, credences, buildings and communion rails. The sketches vary in size and many are quiet small, being less than two by two inches. Very little indentifying information is on the sketches; however, several customers names were noted. Named customers include: Church of Notre Dame of Pitie (North Cambridge, MA); Church of the Ascension (Fall, River, MA); Church of the Mediator (New York, NY); Diocesan House (Boston, MA); Newtonville M. E. Church (Newtonville, MA); St. Martin's Church (Providence, RI); and St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church (Cambridge, MA). Also included in the front of the album is a letter dated 04-13-1916 from Henry R. Clark of the Boston, MA architectural firm of Clark & Russell to Mr. Gulbranson of Irving and Casson - A. H Davenport Co.
