"Bureau of Mahogany"

Description

Design drawing titled "Bureau of Mahogany" rendered in pencil on trace. Front view is shown; plan of top is also provided. Dresser has oxbow front; overhanging top with glass cover; recessed compartment on top with oxbow front and one tier of three shallow drawers having round glass pulls; case below with five drawers with round glass pulls in a two-over-three arrangement; square stiles; straight skirt with molded lower edge; and short carved tapered legs with block feet. Dresser has painted decoration including foliate motifs and bellflowers on upper drawer fronts and stiles. Oval mirror has a gilded narrow frame and beaded molding on interior rim; urn finial with garlands on top; and is supported by two large curved arrms with carved foliage attached to backboard. Title, design details, "C. G. Rice 46434 / Detail 4011," and "Feb 8 - 1905 J. P. H" is handwritten on drawing.
