From "A Family Collects: Paintings and Sculpture from the Codman House," Concord Museum, 1993-1994: An entry in Codman's account book for October 1833 records the purchase of "Thorwaldson's Boy" for $75. The statue, attributed to the great Danish sculptor, stood at the foot of the staircase leading to the second floor of Codman's Boston house where most of his paintings were displayed. The damage to the foot and the harp may have occurred while the statue was stored, along with other furnishings, in the stable behind the house after Codman's death in 1852.
