Label
Cherished Possessions 2002-2005: This oval box is lined with newspapers from Boston and New Bedford, Massachusetts, and from Bennington, Vermont, all dating from 1821. It seems likely then that it was made somewhere in New England, probably around that date. Its decoration and construction-particularly the overlapped join on the back, sewn together with long reed stitches-may be American Indian. If so, the box suggests the overlap of disparate cultures that was still occurring early in the nineteenth century.<br/>
