Square Piano

Description

Square piano [A] with stool [B] made by Thomas Tomkison. Piano case of mahogany veneer with rosewood crossbanding, brass moldings, two drawers, and rounded front corners. Nameboard of rosewood veneer with brass stringing, wood fretwork at each end, brass name plaque, and decorative brass stringing on cheeks. Six turned legs with brass collars and casters. Matching pedal leg for dampers. Compass: FF-c4 [5 and a half octaves]. Ivory naturals and ebony accidentals. English double action with dolly dampers. Piano stool [B], upholstered swivel seat. According to the donor this was the first piano in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
