This combination verse and alphabet sampler was worked on a linen ground in silk thread, depicting a house surrounded by leafy trees, hills and birds. Above the scene is a verse and above that is an alphabet. Below the scene is an inscription with the needleworker's name and age. A green and white satin-stitched border surrounds the scene and inscriptions, with a larger, second border surrounding that, also on three sides, of dainty white and blue flowers ona meandering vine. At the top of the outer border is a large vase filled with flowers and flanked by flying birds. The stitches used include: cross stitch, Satin stitch, eyelet, daisy stitch, whip stitch, Gobelin; framed in gilt wooden frame.
