Description

Tapered molded legs; molded H-stretchers and seat rails; rounded stiles and crest; pierced urn and volute banister; slip seat. DHC Painted black with gold in 1850-1870. Evidence of earlier red stained surface. Berlin work cover over poss. original rush seat. Stretchers well worn; bead hardly visible. Splat design associated with R.I. and Eastern Conn. Federal chairs. Good example with early, poss. original, rush seat. Good comparitive example with carved chairs 9.1940, 24.1940A & B. One-piece shoe, seat rail. BWJ
