Curator's Note: A young member of the Abbe family worked this exquisite memorial at Lydia Royse's school in Hartford, CT. It is nearly identical to one worked by Mary Treadwell for her sister Lucy Jerome. See Betty Ring, Girlhood Embroideries, Vol. 1 p. 216. Mary Treadwell and the young Abbe girl were most likely classmates.
