Aged 74 years/ and/ Mrs. Elizabeth Staples/ died Jan. 17, 1819 Aged 55 years./ Sacred to the memory of/ Hannah S. Fernald/ died Feb. 1, 1806./ aged one year./ Lovely babe/ thy days are ended./ All thy painful days below./ And thy spirit has ascended,/ Where living waters ever flow."" One paper strip along bottom of picture, printed, is ""...Maine. Painted by Mrs. Nathan Junkins of Greenland New Hampshire. Gift of Wm. Sumner Appleton 1934.927."" In pen script on reverse, center left, is ""The Staples of Eliot, Maine/ Painted by Mrs. Nathan Junkins of Greenland, NH./ Junkins""
