Description

Gray silk satin shoes; trimmed with scroll and floral pattern of cut steel beads; slip-on style; pointed toe 3-1/2" vamp; round throat. Leather sole has narrow waist which continues along heel; 2" heel covered with red satin with topstitching; lined with red silk/cotton sateen; padded inside.

In terms of quality and output, the American shoe industry caught up with shoe manufacturing in England and France by the end of the nineteenth century. Even so, these mules ornamented with steel cut beads, purchased in Paris in 1890, carried an extra measure of cachet.
