Cooper's Mallet

Description

Wooden cooper's mallet with rough, heavy mallet head and smooth, handled mallet head and rounded handle. Inscribed with an owner's name and address on the handle and name on the mallet. The mallet head wedge fits onto the pole.

Incised into the wood along the front of the handle is: Ths. C. Amory & Co. On the back is: No 36 Long Wharf. On the front of the mallet head is: Ths C. Amo(cut off by the right edge of the mallet). On a white ticket attached with string to the mallet, through the hole at the handle end, bearing on one side a printed name and address: F.C. FLETCHER/34 Philbrick Road/Brookline, Mass. And below it, the accession number in pencil. On the back, in NFL's hand, written in blue ballpoint is: Cooper's Mallet-/Incised on handle:""Ths C. Amory & Co/No 36 Long Wharf/address only from 1801-1805.
