Description

Design drawing titled "Parlor Table" rendered in pencil. Perspective view is shown. Rectangular table has overhanging top with deep molded edge; deep apron with painted or inlaid garland and swag motifs; four slender legs with ring, ball and cylinder turnings; flattened disk feet; and smalller shelf below with narrow gallery rail. Shelf is attached to a shaped panel on the underside of table by six turned spindles; four corner spindles extend in a curve to also attach to legs. Table top and apron may be of a figured wood or have painted designs. Handwritten on drawing is title and "For Mrs. Henry Keyes/ for S. Hayworth [?] / 1883." Mrs. Henry Keyes refers to Emma Frances (Pierce) Keyes, widow of investor Henry Keyes; her Boston, MA home at 88 Commonwealth Avenue was built in 1881 and was designed by Peabody and Stearns. On the reverse side is a rough pencil sketch of a table like the one shown in CC011.001.003.
