Scrapbook -- Tapestry

Description

Untitled scrapbook. Scrapbook has dark brown fabric cover and is held together by two metal brads. Scrapbook contains 84 pages and 42 albumen prints of tapestries. This is the fourth of five scrapbooks dedicated to tapestries; the pagination continues across each book. The tapestries are shown flat as well as in use as furniture upholstery. Most prints have a legend containing: a number, "Garde-Meuble" and a caption such as "Tapisserie de Beauvais, style Louis XVI" followed by initials such as "L. L." It is believed that the prints have been taken from "Les tapisseries decoratives du Garde-Meuble (Mobilier National): Choix des plus beaux motifs" which was published in two volumes from 1878 to 1881. Each page has handwritten notations in the margins including information on size and quality, some of which are written in a code.
