Kaolin Pipes

Description

Eight kaolin clay pipes in wooden shipping box (see1925.865). Accession book notes that the pipes had been in the box since 1835. Seven of the pipes appear unused. All seven are stamped with "W. Southorn & Co./ Broseley 9". For of the seven have green glaze at the mouth end of the stem, the other three appear to have lost some of the length of the stem at the mouth end. One of the pipes has a short, broken stem and has been heavily used. It is stained brown on exterior and it's pipe bowl is black and sooty.
