Series XXIII, Frederick Leeds Pierce (1829-1910) papers, 1892-1899, undated (#2.9-2.15), contains a record book for the Codman Club, financial records, legal documents, and plot plans. The record book for the Codman Club includes meeting minutes regarding the founding of the club; the official agreement of association; the club's by-laws and house rules; a list of charter members with addresses; meeting notices; applications for membership; an 1897 annual report; plans for the clubhouse, which includes space for billiard tables and bowling lanes; and account sheets. Additional small documents such as account sheets and membership applications are tipped in, pasted in, or inserted in the volume. The Codman Club was a social club in Dorchester, Massachusetts, organized in 1892 by Frederick Leeds Pierce (1829-1910), George Francis Pierce (1838-1919), and others; the clubhouse was built on Adams Street, on a lot provided by Pierce. The financial records consist of stock certificates from the National Insulator Company, the Nantahala Dredging and Mining Company, the Freeman Water Meter Company, and the Boston Vacuum Dredging Company; two statements relating to the purchase of shares in a patent owned by Lawrence B. Gray; deeds, primarily for property passing from one Pierce family member to another; and an account record from F.L. Pierce and Son, Brick and Stone Work. Within the legal papers is a document giving George Frederick Pierce (1858-1934) power of attorney over Frederick Leeds Pierce (1829-1910), as well as probate documents relating to the estate of Frederick Leeds Pierce (1829-1910). Also included in the series are some unidentified plot plans. The series is arranged alphabetically by topic, then by record type.
