Papers of the Coleman family


Series XVI, Papers of the Coleman family, 1785-ca.1861, undated (#C.2.32-C.2.39, OB.2.8, OB.3.12), contains Elizabeth Low (Coffin) Coleman's (b. 1813) diary, which focuses on domestic life and highlights Elizabeth's interaction with family and friends; attendance at tea parties; and trips to Boston, Massachusetts. Also included, is an 1825 class list belonging to Elizabeth. The papers of Jeremiah Coleman (dates unknown) include correspondence; military commission and discharge papers; estate papers; and site plans. An 1808 edition of the Newburyport Herald newspaper, containing the marriage announcement of Mary (Chute) Coleman (dates unknown) and Jeremiah Coleman (dates unknown), and personal correspondence comprise the papers of Mary (Chute) Coleman (dates unknown). Moses Coleman's (dates unknown) papers contains time tables from the Metropolitan Railroad, where Coleman worked as the superintendent, and an envelope from the National Horse and Carriage Mart of Moses Coleman and Son in Boston, Massachusetts. The series is arranged alphabetically by name, and thereunder by record type.
