Description

Paper banner or wall hanging with religious motto from the "Worsted" church in Canterbury, New Hampshire. Attributed to Lizzie Monmouth (Elizabeth Harper Monmouth). The banner an oblong oval in shape and made from pieces of decoupaged white paper backed with wallpaper. The wallpaper backing is striped with green and brown stylized floral figures. The paper is roller-printed and marked "8 yds. / 356" in the selvedge. The front of the banner is adorned with flowers and leaves cut from wallpaper. The floral pieces include at least three different wallpapers. One floral wallpaper roller-printed in olive greens, yellow, red and light blue. A second wallpaper with large yellow tulips roller-printed in yellow, ochre and brown. And a third wallpaper or wallpaper border including a red and black stripe and red flowers with black pin-striping. The banner is lettered with the motto "Charity Thinketh No Evil" cut from black, yellow, brown and white striped paper.
