Description

Wallpaper attached to wallboard from Brookline Village, Brookline, Massachusetts. Two layers of wallpaper affixed to a rough board with tongue and groove joint on left side, hand-wrought door latch hardware, and cut nails. Only small areas of the first layer of wallpaper are visible. The paper has a pattern of scrolling medallions, honeycomb and floral sprigs on pin dots. The paper, dating between 1830-1840, is block-printed in green and blue on an undetermined ground. The top layer of wallpaper, dating between 1850-1860, is printed with a floral stripe pattern featuring large conical flowers, scrolls, and delicate hanging ivy bordered to the right by a vertical geometric figure and pin stripe. Block-printed in red, gray, and green on white ground.
