Wallpaper covered document box

2001.281.1193.16 (RS198141)

Description

Small, wallpaper covered box used to hold family documents. The box is one of a group of twenty-two enclosures created by Olive Percival of Los Angeles, California. The box's label, handwritten by Percival, indicates it held the early nineteenth century diary of her great-grandfather Elisha Percival, Junior of Lenox, Massachusetts. The box is made of pasteboard and covered with a large-scale floral wallpaper with a pattern that includes a large branch, flowers and peacock feathers. The paper is roller-printed in greens, grays, red, pinks, blues and purples on white ground. The wallpaper is embossed with a ribbed texture.
