Subseries H, Papers of Lucy Smith Anderson (1845-1918), 1852-1908, undated (#1.4-1.5, 2.3, C.1.25-C.1.51, OB.2.6), contains attendance and grade books; an autograph book; awards and certificates; copybooks; correspondence; a daybook; a high school diploma; printed material; receipts; memorabilia; school papers and related material; and clippings. The subseries reflects Anderson's life as both student and teacher. The autograph book contains signatures of students and colleagues while Anderson was a teacher in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. The correspondence includes personal and professional letters sent and received by Anderson and a pamphlet by Rob Morris entitled, Poetry of Freemasonry (#C.1.26). Contained in the memorabilia is Anderson's membership certificate in the Cold Water Army of Massachusetts (a prohibition society spawned by the temperance movement in the United States); a copy of Harriet Beecher Stowe's publication, Earthly Care: A Heavenly Discipline; a postcard from Paris, France; a June 1856 issue of the newspaper, Child's Paper (#OB.2.6); and other keepsakes. The school material consists of Anderson's class compositions, essays, grammar exercises, copybooks, assignments in other subjects, and related material from her days as a student (including awards and her high school diploma); also included are her teaching attendance and grade books. The subseries is arranged by record type, then by topic, and thereunder chronologically.
