Trinket Box

1991.1392 (RS25747)

Description

Pine and Chestnut paint decorated trinket or toilet box, of rectangular shape with a molded, cleated lid above three printed sides (the back is plain). The front has a stylized scroll and floral pattern (worn), ant the sides have a sunburst-like motif, all in yellow and black on a reddish-brown ground on a molded base. The lid is attached with interlocking nails creating hinges at the back; a hole on the lid molding and inner rim were probably for a closing device (a nail or peg).
