Reproduction Wallpaper

2001.281.769.1-.4 (RS194678)

Description

Four unused samples of reproduction wallpaper in the "Strawbery Banke Stencil" pattern by Waterhouse Wallhangings, Inc. Wallpaper has a Neoclassical pattern of repeating palmette quatrefoils and oval medallions filled with a stylized floral motif. The quatrefoils and medallions are printed on a background of small geometric motifs composed of four lines arranged at right angles. Interspersed throughout the pattern are wide vertical stripes with a sawtooth pattern. Pattern is based on an American block-printed wallpaper dating from 1815-1825 which was found in two houses at Strawbery Banke in Portsmouth, NH. Three colorways are present: 2001.281.769.1 and .2 -- White on a cream ground (#145335); 2001.281.769.3 -- Green on a cream ground (#145635): and 2001.281.769.4 -- White on a gold ground (#145193).
