Description

Multiple fragments of scenery figure wallpaper from West Newton, Massachusetts. The wallpaper pattern consists of two alternating columns, each with two different alternating scenes, one large and one small. The scenes include a castle wall with towers, a timber frame cottage, an arched building with arched windows and entry, and a patio with peacock and pagoda-like building. The scenes have a medieval or old world theme and may represent a particular place or places. The pattern's asymmetrical, framed scenes and coloring are in keeping with Anglo-Japanese papers of the period. Roller-printed in pale yellow, pale blue, maroon, black, and four shades of green on olive ground.
