Fireboard Paper

2001.281.447A-D (RS191673)

Description

Four fragments of wallpaper removed from a fireboard original to Newburyport, Massachusetts. Medallion and ribbon stripe pattern on rainbow ground. A row or stripe of large medallion figures with four petals or arms, possibly meant to represent bows, are linked by ribbon with small stylized flower bud decoration. The same ribbon zigzags back and forth on either sides of the medallions. A background pattern of squiggly lines and dots is also present. Pattern elements are block-printed in white on a rainbow ground of blue and yellow. The paper appears to have been applied to the fireboard horizontally rather than vertically.
