Family Vacation album

Description

Leather bound album with the words "Photographs" embossed on the cover. Contains 307 black & white photographs including 1 postcard and 1 news clipping photograph c. 1909-1927. Photos range in size from 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 to 4 x 6 to 6 x 9 1/2. Most photos are mounted in album with a few loose between the pages.

Album appears to be a family album with vacation locations and family snapshots. There is wonderful detail in the scenes, house details, period clothing and activities. The album provides a wonderful portrayal of family life and especially vacations in the early 1900s including recreational habits, typical dress and vacation locations.

The book opens with a collection of photographs from a trip to the White Mountains. One is identified as "Mr. Bassett's Party at the Bellevue" in the winter showing large group of guests dressed for outdoor winter activities with snowshoes, tobaggans and a sleigh. Thre are numberous photographs of outdoor activity mostly snowshoeing taken in February 1909. Also sleigh rides. Additional locations include the Fairbanks House, Dedham, Massachusetts, Sebago Lake, Bennington, Vermont, Casco, Maine, Poland Spring, Maine, the Wyman family in Starksboro, Vermont, the Ethan Allen House in Manchester, Vermont, Lake Champlain, Lake George, Ausable Chasm in New York, Kearsage Village, New Hampshire, Norumbega Park, Newton, Massaschusetts, the Wayside Inn in Sudbury, Massachusetts, Ogunquit, Maine, beach scenes from Prospect Harbor and S. Hiram Maine, and East Sandwich, Massachusetts, a lovely house and interiors on Congress Avenue in Providence, RI, and the Cliff Walk in Newport, RI. Thre are beach scenes, boating, landscapes, farm scenes, haying, 4th of July celebrations, early automobiles, riverboats, families enjoying sports such as snowshoeing adn croquet. Also snpashots of people, family gorups, pets and farms and houses. The news clipping shows Medford with the Mystic River and Lawrence Armory with Arlington Heights in the background. The one postcard is colored with a poem about Old Cape Cod.

Photographs are allin good quality and clear. Pencil identification on the pages are somewhat hard to read.
