Description

Of rectangular formart, oblong, showing a view of Taunton Lunatic Asylum at the end of a long drive flanked by trees. Also a group of red brick buildings; there are three couples: one couple strolling on the lawn, one along the road, and the other in front of the building. It is in a marblized(?) black frame, with a gilded lip.

On a white sticker, in black faded felt tip pen, in the upper left corner on the back is written: 37 [in a circle]. Handwritten in charcoal, upper center of the backside is: #567F . Written inscript in pencil, on the upper center on the back is: Painted for C.R. Barstow in June 1893 by a patient named Arnold./Barstow worked on the east and west wings built during 1892 and 1893. Typed on a jelly label, in the lower left side on the back is: Taunton Lunatic Asylum./Painted for C.K. Barstow in/June, 1893 by a patient named/Arnold. Barstow worked on the/east and west wings built duri/ing 1892 and 1893. Asylum opened April, 1854. In pencil, on the lower center on the back is: y-1228 Cornfield .
