Description

Falmouth was a sidewheel steamboat built in New York in 1872 for the New England and Nova Scotia Steamship Co. for service between Portland, ME and Halifax. She was especially designed for open sea service with narrowly spaced frames and narrow guards and was said to have put to sea from Halifax at times when transatlantic liners deemed it prudent to remain in port. Became part of the International line in the early 1880s. LOA 240ft. Displ 1156tons. Vertical beam engine of 54in, 11ft stroke.
