Wigglesworth Family in Cambridge, Milton, Maine and North Carolina

Description

An album of 103 B&W photographs showing late 19th century domestic life in North Carolina, Maine and New England, mostly scenery and outdoor activity. This album is the first of three documenting the life of the Wigglesworth family. Mary Wigglesworth was the daughter of E. S. Dixwell. People in the pictures are probably the Wigglesworth family. Each photograph has a short description written underneathe. Subjects include boating and camping in Maine, hotels in NC, riding horses, the Henry Pickering steam yacht in 1890, Manchester beach after a storm, a Fourth of July Procession in 1890, the North Hampton stage driver, and playing croquet. One very interesting photograph shows convicts at work alongside a road in North Carolina. Photographs in Maine are labeled Penobscrot River, Moosehead Lake, Lake Chesuncook, Caribou Lake, and Lake Rippogenus. The Foufth of July Procession is interesting for the inclusion of people dressed as the maimed and wounded of former years and childen dressed as Red Cross nurses.
