2006.44.3678 (RS171051)

Description

Woven leaf fan with handle, from Hawaii. Strips of various widths are woven in a check design, diamond-shaped holes run horizontally across the center of the fan. The word "ALOHA" appears across the top of the fan and is made of narrow strips of a reddish-brown material that has been inserted into the woven base. Traditional weaving techniques were used to create the fan. Fans like this were widely available in Hawaii for the tourist market.
