Photograph album 81A

Description

Carte de visite album decorated with a brass anchor on the front cover. A dedication on the inside front reads "A merry Christmas to Freddie from Lizzie and Rev. Theo. Eaton 1862." Along with portraits, the album has a print of autumn leaves and a print of a devil in a hood with the caption "The king considers, go bring over to me my Maryland." This is a copy of a painting by William M. Davis and it was published in 1862. There is one photograph of a man in Civil War uniform. Most of the portraits are unidentified and the condition is generally good. Two Boston photographers represented here are John Adams Whipple and Black & Batchelder.
