Catalog record for 1985.355 #

AvatarPosted by Ron Kley on June 3, 2012
Maker would be U.S. Armory at Springfield, MA; official designation would be "rifle-musket"; reported marks sound like typical (and identifiable) armory inspectors' initials. Stock (unless replaced) would be standard straight-grained walnut. No "simulated would" would be present unless as a clumsy repair. All original metal would be ferrous (wrought iron or cast steel).

N.B. this catalog entry, along with many others that turn up in response to a search for "rifle," seems very lacking in accurate detail that any firearms collector should be able and willing to contribute. I don't consider myself an expert in that field, but would be very willing to have a go at improving this and other firearm-related records.

Thank you! #

Hello Ron. Thanks so much for providing more information about this piece. As you can imagine, with only fifteen or so pieces in a collection of more than 110,000, firearms don't get the attention they no doubt deserve. We'll be delighted to add any information you care to share with us. I'll contact you off line so we can make this happen. Thanks again.
