Portrait of Thomas Dawes, seated in a gilt chair with red velvet upholstery. Shown from the waist, wearing a black collared coat with white shirt and wearing a gray wig. He is holding a red and gilt book "Architecture by Palladio." Behind subject is red drapery flanked by a classical column, blue sky and clouds. In original gilt leaf-carved frame.
