Sugar bowl with lid. Squat oval body with scalloped rim. Two foliate handles. Oval footed base. Transfer printed blue on blue eagle and shield pattern with Boston harbor in the distance. Lid has hat shaped finial and facetted sides, blue on blue floral and scroll pattern.
One of many views of the early United States highlighted in the online exhibit "Patriotic America."<br/>
A reputed distant view of Boston Harbor with the center subject a large spread winged American Eagle perched on a rock above an American Shield. Although there is no proof that this is indeed the view it is purported to be, it is a beautiful view which varies from piece to piece as regards the buildings pictured and the number of ships in the harbor.
