Description

This shallow, square basket has a hinged lid with a pair of ash splint rings attached to the lid and base at the front center to form a looped closure. The basket is woven from green and natural colored narrow ash splints alternating with braided sweetgrass. The base is formed from dyed green splints in a checker weave. The lip is bunched sweetgrass lashed in place with a green splint. This basket is of Native American manufacture, most likely for the tourist souvenir trade.
