Description

A watercolor of a masted ship with an American flag waving off the back. Distant mountains along the coast behind the ship. Pale blue sky along the top, with a whitish sky across middle of piece. Frame is painted gold, with a beaded inner border. Name of artist of original painting (Sunqua) is in bottom right.

McPherson of the originalpainting in oil by Sunqua / a Chinese artist, showing the vessel lying off Lintin in China. The original / picture is in the possession of Walter Johnson, son of Capt. Johnson./ While in the service of Mr. Pingree, between 1835 and 1847 the "CYNTHIA" / made eleven voyages to Canton Sumartra and other Eastern ports. / Dec. 1902 Stephen W. Phillips.
