Abstract
The term "sewing-bird" has become generic, used to describe anything that clamps to a table and shows some relation to sewing. Author Manton Copeland is bewildered by the fact that sewing clamps decorated with dogs, butterflies, and cupids are all called "sewing-birds," and sets out to classify them properly.
