Abstract
The world's first luxury hotel, the Tremont House sat at the corner of Tremont and Beacon streets in Boston. Built in 1829, it became the model for the modern city hotel. It excelled in accommodations and service and entertained every noted visitor to pass through the city. But a little over 65 years later, the once-great hotel was reduced to rubble after closing its doors on Dec. 2, 1894.
