I could not find Peter Ayer (1756-1825) listed as a direct relation of Dr. James Cook Ayer or Frederick Ayer, however, they could be related. John Ayer (1596-1688), of the first generation of the family in America had numerous descendants and lived in Haverhill. The book has a reference from The History of Haverhill, Massachusetts which states: "in 1700, it was supposed that nearly one third of the inhabitants of the town were of that name." (George Wingate Chase, The History of Haverhill, Massachusetts (Lowell, 1861; reprinted by New England History Press, Somersworth, N.H., 1983), p. 73.
