Water and waste in Wiscasset
The town of Wiscasset, Maine, recently replaced the water main on Federal Street, tearing up the street in the process. Although this project may have inconvenienced guests to the Nickels-Sortwell House, it provided Historic New England's property care team an opportunity to make improvements.
Working cooperatively with the town, we upgraded our own waste and water lines running from the street into the house, and added capacity for future improvements such as public bathrooms. This project saved us the cost of opening up the road ourselves in the future.
