Jewett structural repair
Contractors stabilize Sarah Orne Jewett House before work can begin.

While preparing for a painting project at Sarah Orne Jewett House in South Berwick, Maine, Historic New England's property care staff discovered a spot of suspected structural deterioration.

After opening up a section of the house, they determined that structural repairs were required before painting could commence.

Work on the deteriorated sill began last week. Once completed, the entire east elevation of the house will receive a fresh coat of paint.

To support this and other essential preservation projects at Historic New England's properties, please consider donating to the Preservation Maintenance Fund.
