Developing digital floor plans for southern Maine properties

Digital Floor Plans
This image shows the floor plans we were working with, the new floor plan, and 3-D framing plans for Sayward-Wheeler House.

While conducting physical condition assessments on our properties in New Hampshire and Maine, Historic New England's property care staff noticed that the floor plans for some properties were difficult to read, outdated, or missing vital information. Historic New England enlisted a New Hampshire and southern Maine preservation project manager (a year-long, grant-funded position to support our Preservation Maintenance Fund efforts in that part of the region) to update some of our plans at the properties to support planning and preservation projects. Floor plans were updated for the newly acquired Jewett-Eastman House in South Berwick, Maine, and Sarah Orne Jewett House next door. Three-dimensional framing plans were developed to aid the analysis of Jewett-Eastman House and carpentry projects at Sayward-Wheeler House in York Harbor, Maine.

Building documentation projects like this are made possible the Preservation Maintenance Fund. Please consider donating today.
