New dairy farming exhibition opens at Roseland Cottage
June 21, 2010
Farmers, Cows, and the Land, an exhibition about the modern history of dairy farming in Connecticut, officially opened at the Roseland Cottage carriage barn on Sunday, June 20. The illustrated exhibition is one of Historic New England’s 100 Years, 100 Communities partnerships. For this project, Historic New England partnered with The Farmer’s Cow, a local dairy cooperative, to capture, preserve, and share the story of dairy farming in Connecticut over the past century.
A special opening reception was held on Saturday, June 19. Local Historic New England members, individuals from the agricultural community, and nearby families and friends gathered for the reception, which included a tour of Fairvue Farms in Woodstock, Connecticut, a viewing of the exhibition at Roseland Cottage, and a tasting of The Farmer’s Cow's new Roseland Cottage-themed ice cream flavor: Roseland Cottage Raspberry Jasmine.
The exhibition is on view in the Roseland Cottage carriage barn June 20 – October 15, Wednesday – Sunday, 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Admission is free.
