New community partnership at Merwin House
September 23, 2016
Together, the organizations bring more than 175 years of experience preserving and protecting regional treasures. HVA has safeguarded thousands of square miles of Housatonic watershed and Historic New England has collections documenting centuries of the region’s history.
“The partnership is a perfect blend,” said Laurie Masciandaro. “The family that owned Merwin House called it 'Tranquility,' as it overlooks a peaceful bend in the Housatonic River. Now we are partnering with the organization committed to protecting it.”
HVA’s Berkshire Director Dennis Regan said, “HVA is very excited about collaborating with Historic New England on offering public programs and displays at Merwin House. Since the house is situated between a beautiful stretch of Housatonic River and the center of Stockbridge, it offers a perfect setting for creating an atmosphere of learning more, and enjoying the river."
The two cultural organizations will share meeting and program space and plan to do joint programming in the future. HVA will also have office space for staff on the second floor. Merwin House will continue to have tours of its historic rooms and plans to install the exhibition The Preservation Movement Then and Now in the program space.
